Segmental duplications and supernumerary chromosomes drive antifungal drug resistance in Candida auris

Combining whole genome sequencing, a copy number variation screen, karyotyping and mutation accumulation analyses in clinical Candida auris isolates, the study finds that small duplications containing ERG11 enhance azole resistance. Large duplications of chromosome 1 form supernumerary chromosomes that reduce susceptibility to caspofungin.
