MedGenome adopts Beluga by Cambrian Bioworks for scalable whole exome sequencing workflows

Bengaluru, April 11, 2026 - Cambrian Bioworks has installed Beluga, its automated sample preparation system, at MedGenome, enabling fully automated whole-exome sequencing (WES) for germline variant detection.

Beluga, integrates advanced features to support high-throughput genomic workflows. Its 2D barcode system ensures end-to-end sample traceability, reducing errors and enhancing reproducibility. The system scales efficiently, allowing labs to increase throughput with accuracy.

Sample mix-ups and loss of chain-of-custody are major challenges in clinical genomics. We built Beluga to solve this problem. Its 2D barcode creates a reliable workflow from sample input to elution, reducing errors and enabling labs to scale operations with confidence,” says Rohit Asil, Co-founder of Cambrian Bioworks.

MedGenome leverages the platform alongside multiple Mantas - Cambrian’s automated nucleic acid extraction system, creating a fully automated workflow from sample prep to sequencing-ready DNA. This integration streamlines operations, improves consistency, and supports reliable disease detection at scale.

Partnering with MedGenome has been a milestone for us," said Vaibhav Hegde, CEO of Cambrian Bioworks. “Beluga was designed to deliver reliable, scalable automation, and seeing it support one of India’s leading genomic labs reaffirms our mission to make high-quality testing accessible.

The deployment underscores the collaboration between two Indian companies driving genomic innovation, demonstrating the impact of locally developed automation solutions in high-complexity labs.
